I've been giving talks on various things over the years eg. environmental issues, singing and performance, but today I gave a talk to the Healing Trust about the tarot. It went really well with a great turnout and was very enjoyable. I hope that it was illuminating for the people who attended and that they went away with a much better understanding of what the tarot is all about; how it works; the importance of ethics and caring for clients, the structure of the tarot deck, the Major Arcana, the Minor Arcana, tarot spreads and a brief overview of how to read them. There were lots of questions which was also very pleasing.
I actually started the talk (after introductions) by reading out an excerpt from the Human Rights Act and was really pleased to hear that this went down really well. It's important I believe, to respect the views of others (and I was mentioning this because of the stigma that's inappropriately been attributed to the tarot in the past). For you, therefore, here's that excerpt:
" Everyone has the right to freedom of expression. This right shall include freedom to hold opinions and to receive and impart information and ideas without interference by public authority and regardless of frontiers."
"Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief, in worship, teaching, practice and observance."
